Ever see anything 3,500 years old? That’s still alive?

Go see the Senator at Big Tree Park

This Longwood park's main attraction is "The Senator", a 3500 year old Bald Cypress, one of the oldest and largest trees in America. Bring a picnic lunch and enjoy a day of nature.
West of U.S. 17-92 on General Hutchinson Parkway

Open daily from 8 am till sunset.

This park is located on the beautifully shaded General Hutchinson Parkway between U.S. 17-92 and State Road 427 north of Longwood. The park is a step back into time. You will see natural vegetation and marsh lands as you make your way on the boardwalk to "The Senator", the park's main attraction a 3,500 year old Bald Cypress. This property was donated to Seminole County by Senator M.O. Overstreet and dedicated by President Calvin Coolidge in 1929.

While your there, might as well see Lady Liberty too. Located only 40 feet from the Senator is another old cypress named Lady Liberty. She is 89 feet high 10 feet in diameter, and is estimated to be a little younger at 2000 years old. There is only a 1,500 age difference :paranoid:

Picnic tables and restroom facilities are available in the front of the park. This is an 11 acre park that is open from 8:00 a.m. to sunset seven days a week 363 days a year.
Parks Close at 5pm on the day before Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, and New Year's Eve. The park is closed for Thanksgiving and Christmas.

The serene wetland scene soon turns to awe, as the “big tree” comes into view; this bald cypress named The Senator is 115 feet tall, 11 feet wide, with volume of 4,216 cubic feet. At an age of 3,500 years, it was sprouting during the Bronze Age, when Moses led the slaves into exodus, many years before King Tut would rule Egypt.
