Each year we ask residents to submit their suggestions for the 4th of July parade theme. This year’s theme celebrates America and also incorporates Celebration’s continued efforts to “go green.” The 2011 Celebration parade theme is “We’re Going Green for the Red, White and Blue!”

For the past three years, Celebration has made continued efforts to incorporate green initiatives into the community. Lakeside Park was retrofitted with eco-friendly options such as the recycled flooring and water saver sinks and toilets in the restrooms. The offices in the 851 building are also working towards becoming paper-less over the next two years and currently utilize light timers to conserve energy. In addition, the Celebration News features a green column each month by Teddy Benson that focuses on easy ways to make green changes in your day-to-day life.

Celebration was founded on the cornerstones of Community, Place, Education, Health and Technology. With this parade theme we can incorporate each of these cornerstones. Being Green for the Red, White and Blue packs a huge educational lesson for the next generation in our community. Being Green is good for the health of not only Celebration, but for America and planet Earth as a whole.

With today's technology, our parade entries can be eye-popping, thought provoking and inspire new uses, new ideas and new creations, all while bringing this trail-blazing community together in a celebration!

Celebration residents will have the opportunity showcase their creativity for the 4th of July parade. Design your parade entry to show our community spirit honoring our nation, our holiday, and our independence and set the example for our future generations. Instead of buying new things to decorate your parade float or vehicle, try recycling things you already have laying around the house. Use empty soda cans, two liter bottles, paper towel rolls, old newspapers or office supplies to make your float stand out! Recycle old shirts to make an outfit to march in for the parade! Get crafty and have fun with this year’s theme.
